How to survive a heat wave in style

As if global warming wasn’t real enough, it’s hitting NYC with full power this weekend. With a heat index of 110 degrees, it’s expected to be pretty brutal. Not even ice cream is going to be enough to offset this heat wave. (!!) In preparation for the humidity, sun, and less-than-stellar city smells to come, I put together an outfit formula to help you look cute when it’s hot as balls out. Sure, your outfit is probably going to be about the last thing on your mind but, coming from someone who is not used to the sweltering, humid New York summer, the clothes you wear to sweat through it can make all the difference.

The Fabrics

  1. Linen is one of the most breathable (and sustainable) fabrics out there! Made from fibers of a Flax plant, linen will let your skin breathe and prevent any unwanted sweat. Major win!
  2. Cotton is another well known breathable plant-based fabric. Behind linen, cotton is another great option to keep cool in the heat. Tip: buy organic cotton! It uses much less water than regular cotton to grow and harvest.
  3. Silk is infamous for being light and soft on the skin, which makes it the perfect luxurious fabric to make your sweat look more like a natural glow. Not to mention, this protein fiber is sustainable too!

  2. Cotton: t-shirt, shorts
  3. Silk: dress, blouse
