A Week in FIT Style

Moving to NYC has been quite an adjustment so far, from having to budget how much money I spend on clothes and food (it’s so hard here, there’s so much good dining and shopping!) to actually learning about and getting accustomed to the city. But although it has been stressful at times, and somewhat overwhelming, there hasn’t been one minute where I’ve regretted coming to college here. The diversity and multi-cultural aspects of the city are so refreshing coming from a pretty non-diverse area (no offense Colorado). Also, the fact that I’m attending a fashion school in this city opens up even more opportunities for people to express themselves through fashion. This, thus far, is my favorite part about New York City and more specifically, FIT. The fact that everyone is so confident in their own skin that they can wear anything they want and not be afraid of being judged.  And by anything, I mean anything. Watching students from FIT walk from class to class is like watching a fashion show. Everyone exudes a different persona and that shows through the vast diversity of outfits, hairstyles, and makeup. Which inspires me to have fun with my style even more than ever, to embrace this diversity rather than hide from it.

That being said, I wanted to show you guys my outfits from my first week of being here. We had a week of orientation before school started so it was a great opportunity to play around with my style a little bit before the semester began!

Day 1:

For my first day of Orientation week, I wore a white denim tank (similar here) with this Billabong pink corduroy skirt and an emblem blazer (similar here). I accessorized with a black Target purse and some Aldo flat platform sandals.

Day 2:

This was my only picture of my outfit this day; for day 2 I wore this Lilyful jumpsuit (it’s so comfortable!) and accessorized with an Aldo clutch (similar here), brown heeled mules (similar here), and some gold earrings.

Day 3:

We walked to the Highline and did a little mini shoot on day 3. I wore a graphic Cotton on tee (same tee, different color here) with a gray denim skirt (similar here) and accessorized with a Brixton fisherman cap (similar here), a Kate Spade leopard purse, and my Aldo sandals from earlier.

Day 4:

We went shopping in SOHO for Day 4! For my shopping look, I tried to emulate the sweatpant and pretty top trend I’ve been seeing celebrities wear lately by pairing these wide-leg jogger pants (similar here) with a striped tie crop top (similar long-sleeve version here) and accessorizing with Dolce Vita white boots and a red purse (similar here).

Day 5:

This day we strolled through Central park, went to the Met, and tried out Hillsong church. I actually found this dress a day before while thrift shopping in Brooklyn (it’s a Halston Heritage!) and paired it with a gold belt (similar here) and, once again, my Aldo sandals.

Day 6:

For my last outfit, I wore a white wrap top (similar here) and paired it with a striped wrap skirt (most similar I could find here) and some nude flats.
